Beverley Budd

Head of HR at Wasabi Sushi & Bento

Why we chose Beverley

Beverley has crafted her HR career with a strong through-line in the the food and beverages industry. A journey which has now taken her to be Head of HR at Wasabi Sushi & Bento. Beverley is an advocate of having an open and honest company culture, ensuring there is an open door policy at all times.

What’s your ‘why’? How do you balance work and life responsibilities to fulfil it?

Throughout my working career, I’ve accepted that there is no 'perfect' work-life balance. Working hard with like minded people is a great achievement, and always remembering there is a purpose in why we are doing this helps to drive me.

Can you explain an initiative you've implemented that has made an impact in your workplace?

Making sure HR is an enabler not a blocker is important for making our business a success. I ensure we have an open door policy for all teams so those who need to speak to use can, without feeling like a burden.

As a female leader, what have been the most significant barriers in your career?

I don’t think being female has been a barrier. I think age is what gets in the way most. When you’re young you have to earn the stripes, regardless of whether you’re right or not. I’ve always worked in an environment where gender isn’t a challenge.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Believe in yourself, take people with you, and coach and develop others.
