Challenges
Jacqueline says the main motivator for looking into an employee experience solution was that, “a lot of companies had some type of employee rewards and recognition program, and we didn't. Working in some of the departments I could see that our employees were working really hard without recognition — especially in the packing room, which is a core team for us.”
It was important to the leaders of the business that the recognition program wasn’t just top down, saying they were looking for “something that we could use to give back to the employees, but also allow colleagues to say something — encourage and recognise each other as well.”
Both Jacqueline and Colin believe company culture is something that ebbs and flows. Jacqueline explains, “We’ve had periods where we felt the culture needed improvement, that was around the time we got Perkbox, and then we saw a real spike in the culture. But as soon as you take your foot off the pedal about culture being a priority, it falls away. You have to keep working at it.”
Although the business has many long term employees, the leadership is aware that retention is also something that needs to be constantly worked at, just like culture. Jacqueline says “employees who have self satisfaction in their field, get recognised for what they do, and rewarded for going above and beyond, don’t leave.” She kept this in mind when searching for a reward and recognition platform.

Colin says one of the fastest and most noticeable improvements since implementing Perkbox is interdepartmental interaction. “There’s a lot of recognition happening between departments, which is something we didn’t see prior to having Perkbox. People now think about and acknowledge the efforts of people they deal with regularly but may not be part of the same team. It’s really positive,” explains Colin.
The team uses polls to drive engagement on the platform. Prompts such as ‘Who is a quiet achiever’ or ‘Who is a star’ are used to uncover and share employee contributions. Winners of the polls are sent small rewards, such as movie tickets, through the Perkbox platform. “The polls are fun. It's a good way to get the staff interacting with each other, and giving rewards is quite easy and simple.”
Delta Laboratories employees have one of the highest perk redemption rates amongst Perkbox customers. Together, the team has a redemption rate of 83%, have redeemed over 1,800 perks, and saved up to $60,000. Their favourite perks include a monthly lunch, savings on groceries, takeaway food delivery, and free artisanal gelato.
Jacqueline and Colin attribute their high engagement across both Recognition and Perks to the ideas and campaign templates they receive as part of a monthly update from their dedicated Customer Success Manager.
Each month they receive promotional assets to share with employees on new perks, competitions, and events. The assets save the HR team hours of work, “They are helpful for our HR people to manage and plan things, Perkbox does a good job in helping businesses utilise the platform. We always use the assets our Customer Success Manager sends to us.”
“Perkbox has been a great system for us, it's been a good addition to the business in terms of what we offer our staff as well as what we're getting back. Recognition is really, really important so it's been really positive that we've engaged with Perkbox and it's been a benefit to the business. It has improved our culture, and it has improved our performance with the ability to recognise contributions.”
Going forward, Delta Laboratories has ambitious plans for providing even more for their employees, with a structured performance management system and new HR system with online onboarding and training being the HR team’s next big projects.
