Amanda Le Gros

Head of Marketing at CV-Library

Why we chose Amanda

Amanda is an inspirational individual. Not only does she help people develop, Amanda has also overseen a number of initiatives to improve company-wide communication which have helped to engage the workforce at CV-Library.

What’s your ‘why’? How do you balance work and life responsibilities to fulfil it?

My ‘why’ is to inspire. Even if it's just one person in my lifetime. At work, I do this by challenging myself and my team, giving praise regularly, encouraging new ideas and smiling – which goes a long way!

It's not that different outside of work. Work-life balance is incredibly important to me and I encourage my team to really value it as well. I'm fortunate that CV-Library recognises this. We all work extremely hard during the day, meaning we can leave on time to enjoy our evenings. I really value this downtime as it means I can re-energise, refocus and keep smiling!

Can you explain an initiative you've implemented that has made an impact in your workplace?

CV-Library is a growing business in terms of market share, revenue and employee number. Over the last few years, we've opened several regional sales hubs, so we've had to adapt how we communicate both internally and externally. I can no longer stand up and shout across the floor!

This covers a massive part of my role and I've introduced a number of new initiatives to keep the entire company up-to-date on our latest news, ensuring we're always transparent and honest. This includes a monthly marketing update to the team and wider business, a bi-weekly email from our Managing Director and a weekly employee update welcoming new starters and celebrating any promotions.

As a female leader, what have been the most significant barriers in your career?

I'm very fortunate to have worked with some amazing people over the years and had guidance from some very inspirational women throughout my personal life, education and career, so I can't say there have been any significant barriers.

When I re-joined CV-Library as Head of Marketing in 2016 it was definitely a daunting prospect as the marketing team was five times the size it was when I left. But, armed with a whole host of new skills, I quickly got back to grips with the business and its objectives, and I've received ongoing support from the senior management team along the way.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Don't rest on your laurels. It's very easy to get complacent in the workplace and go along with the same ideas for a long period of time. My best work has come from challenging the norm and thinking outside the box. Don't be afraid to push back if you don't think something is right – you never know where it might lead you and the results you can achieve.
